Color guard report given by B. Wagner – Trying to communicate with P. Wojnicki about ordering patches/t-shirts. He asked for assistance, if possible, in contacting her. Patches for Annie and Bill are ready but waiting for payment from them.

Meetings & Programs: G. Buss – Needs people to sign up for host/hostess;
Suggested “Make the Board Laugh” be added to meetings and will continue Motorcycle Tale program.

Editor: S. Penczak – Has been experiencing problems with the blog. B. Wagner is
will assist in dealing with them.

Tour Director: G. Gauss – Needs more leaders to sign up for Sunday breakfast
rides. Talked about ‘Flags for Vets’ (May 25), ‘Willow Creek Bike Blessing’ (5/27), ‘Burlington Firemen’s Breakfast’ to be led by K. McCall (4/28) leave from Hoffman Estates McDonalds.

Communications: M. Anderson – Nothing to report

Membership/Speak Up/Birthdays – G. Barrington – Made a motion with second by B. Wagner to elevate to life membership to those who have been members for 30 years or more. Motion failed with one nay. (Motion required unanimous approval.)

d. Memorial Day Activities – May 27 – G. Gauss – Meet at McDonalds Des Plaines about 7:30 am with 8:00 leave to American Legion. Then to All Saints Cemetery, Ridgewood Cemetery and Lake Opeka for memorial services.
e. Donation – L. Vicker – Presented information regarding the Standing Tall Charitable Foundation. Request made to make a donation to Standing Tall in the memory of Rev. John Smyth, long friend of the JPC and former Director of Standing Tall and Maryville Academy. Motion approved by membership attending. Second motion was passed after discussion on the amount. A donation of $1,000 was unanimously approved by the board. Treasurer J. Hill will write out the check and it will be either presented in person by J. Hill and M. Anderson or mailed to the Foundation.

We’re still in the off-riding season, so each Sunday we meet at McD’s/DesPlaines, then move to Rose Garden at 9am.  Last Sunday a few tried White Castle and were pleased with the food.

The dinner will be at the Rose Garden beginning at 5:30pm.  Cost is $30/person and needs to be given to Sandy McCall by 3/01 or at breakfast on Sunday.

Program – “Motorcycle Tales” – George Gauss

George brought up the rules of group riding and a lively discussion resulted.  It was suggested:

…..Slow or inexperienced riders should ride directly behind the leader

…..Wait at the corner of a turn if you don’t see the rest of the group                                             

      directly behind you, so as not to lose the remainder of the group

…..The lead group will slow down so that followers caught at a light won’t                           have to wildly exceed the speed limit to catch up.

                                …..Don’t try to fight a car that is dividing the group, as the car is going to win

                                …..If you are the leader, think about giving directions or at the very least, the

Street names of the intersection and remember that most of the utilized Sunday breakfast restaurants are on our distributed restaurant list.

Jean shared her story of Bill’s accident in 1993 in which he severely injured his leg after being hit by a van.  She said she would always remember the JPC’s coming together to help and to share their experience.

C. Jack Frost 1/01/19 – Hugh Brandt

At Thornwood Restaurant, Itasca beginning at 11:00am.  This is a pay as you go event with raffle, cash bar, and microphone for stories.

D. Nominations for 2019 Board – Frank Wenzon

Frank requested members extend themselves to cover all board positions.  Sandy reminded people that if Board positions are not covered, we may need to continue as an “email club.”

For Treasurer:    Joe Hill consented to be nominated again for another year.

Secretary:           No volunteers.

Vice President:   No volunteers.

President:           Steve Penczak will consider the nomination.

Nominations ended and will continue at the January meeting.

E. Trademark Renewal: Joe Hill

Our trademark with the state is expiring.  To continue, fee of $5 and 3 specimens of products with our logo must be submitted such as stationary, flyers, business cards.  The trademark renewal is good for another 5 years.

We’ll have a full house for our 40th party at Lou Malnati’s/Elk Grove on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 1pm-4pm.  The menu includes 3 different kinds of deep dish pizza, 2 salads, 2 pastas, cookie/ice cream and cake desserts, cola and diet cola, coffee and tea.  Dress is casual and many items will be raffled off.

Hugh received many laughs as he told us about purchasing his very first Honda 350 in Columbia, S. America while he worked there on contract……He had no experience riding a motorcycle but went on to ride 20,000 miles back home to the states (definitely not a direct route!).  He showed us all his first license, a 1970 plate from Panama.

AMA did not invite the “Road” division to the AMA Congress this year…….There was no communication about the reason for them dropping road riders.

  1. Laying of the Bricks/Door County 9/8 – H. Brandt

The turnout was excellent.  Gary Cooper’s daughter, Karen, attended.  Hugh presented the $1000 donation from the JPC’s to the park and Huge along with Joni Brandt, bought a brick for “Parrish”, who was a former member of the JPC’s. Sara, was contacted by Lynn Vicker through Facebook and told that a brick was laid for Tom at the Motorcycle Memorial Park.

  1. Anniversary Party Plans – S. McCall

Communication about this 11/3 event went out to current members and will be sent out to former members on Oct. 1st.  Seating is limited to the first 50 paid reservations.  The $10/person cost will be refunded to each person at the conclusion of the party at Lou Malnati’s.

  1. Annual Planning Meeting for 2019 – S. McCall

A few additional events were added.  Calendars will be distributed at the October meeting.

PLEASE NOTE: The vote on moving the Sunday Breakfast Meetings to the Hoffman Estates McDonald’s on a  year-round on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month should have been inserted here……If I remember correctly the vote of the members present was 10 to 8 in favor. It was suggested by the Board that another survey be send out.

Program – “Motorcycle Tales”– Lynn Vicker

Lynn spoke of her experience appearing to her son’s grade school class in June of 1988 about “motorcycle safety.”
